IFACCA signs MoU with Council of Europe and ERICarts for WorldCP

IFACCA,
28 February 2013, Australia

IFACCA is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Council of Europe and ERICarts about the relationship between the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe and development of the WorldCP project in 2013-14.

WorldCP will be a central, web-based and continuously updated database of country-specific profiles of cultural policies. It is modelled on the highly regarded Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe (www.culturalpolicies.net), which currently covers 41 countries in Europe, plus Canada.

IFACCA was nominated by the founders of the Compendium – the Council of Europe (CoE) and the ERICarts Institute – to develop an international version of the Compendium as a tool for policymakers, researchers, advocates and the global community.  WorldCP uses the same database and information grid as the Compendium, developed over 10 years by the Council of Europe and ERICarts, which enables cross-country comparisons.

With the support and cooperation of key regional organisations in Asia, Africa, the Americas, the Pacific and the Arab countries, the data stored in the central database will ultimately be able to be presented online in regional versions (like the existing European site).  The database would also provide the capacity to monitor and analyse global trends in key aspects of cultural policies.

The Council of Europe and ERICarts will continue to manage and develop the European Compendium project. A newsletter with their latest updates is available here: http://www.culturalpolicies.net/newsletter/newsletter2013-02-23.html . They will also provide assistance to IFACCA and other regional partners in the development of WorldCP – providing advice, attending meetings and sharing resources.

Since the launch of WorldCP at the 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture in Melbourne in October 2011, IFACCA has been working with international partners to widen the scope of the project.
