Deputies approve the Book Law

The House unanimously decided to support the law. The law will be enacted on 23 April, the World Book Day. 

The Chamber of Deputies approved unanimously the Óscar Alfaro Draft Law of Books and Reading. The law will place a zero added value tax and zero transaction tax on trade of imported and domestic books.

It will also create the Book Fund, which is coordinated by the Ministries of Cultures,  Tourism and Education with annual resources allocated to the production and editing of bibliographic material. It will also create the Committee of the Book and Promotion of Books and Reading in charge of the Bolivian Chamber of Books, allowing municipal district in the country to have a public library. The Minister of Culture, Pablo Groux, said yesterday that the bill seeks to give children and young people the opportunity to exercise the right to reading and writing, as stipulated by the Constitution and the laws Avelino Siñani and the Law of the Autonomies.
