Magdalena Moreno Mujica (Executive Director of IFACCA) was invited by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Solomon Islands – National Member of the Federation - to present at a meeting of the Melanesian Spearhead Group, which took place alongside the sixth Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival.
Hosted by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Solomon Islands, the regional collaboration connected both governments and communities to share knowledge and practice, and collaborate in the development of the sector by addressing issues of joint concern, such as protecting traditional knowledge and expressions of culture, cultural heritage and the cultural industries.
Ms Moreno Mujica’s presentation on capacity development for the Melanesia in the context of IFACCA’s global network provided insights into examples and practices in other regions in the world. She emphasised the importance for international collaborations and exchange specially government agencies to come together to tackle issues related to protection and promotion of artists and cultural workers in heightened digitalisation, displacement, youth engagement. She celebrated the spirit of generosity and shared vision in the Melanesia. Her presentation was well received by all the Ministers of Culture and high officials from the representing nations that form Melanesia. Ms Moreno Mujica was the only international guest invited to speak at this meeting.
