A first ruling in the European Union of its kind for an artwork has been framed as a win for appropriation art.
After three years, a Berlin Regional Court has decided that German artist Martin Eder’s painting doesn’t infringe on the UK artist Daniel Conway's copyright protections, legally declaring Eder’s work a pastiche that lawfully samples from the original artwork.
