Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (HK PAX) , the inaugural major international arts expo, hosted by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) with the full support of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China is set to take place on the 14th to 18th October 2024.
The National Arts Council (NAC) is proud to be supporting five South African musicians to showcase at the expo namely, Ms. Thandeka Mfinyongo (UHadi (gourd/calabash bow) and Umrhubhe (mouth-bow), Mr. Mbuzeni Mkhize (maskandi guitarist), Ms. Ayanda Jiya (voice), Dr Natalie Rungan (voice) and Ms. Sibahle Dladla (African instruments). The award winning musicians will be showcasing and promoting South African arts during the Expo week by performing in a unique music journey jointly created with musicians from Hong Kong titled “Journey of Discovery” on the 16-17th October 2024 at Hong Kong City Hall. The Office of the Consul General in Hong Kong will be in attendance and has supported the establishment of the HKADC and NAC partnership as part of its mandate to foster bilateral relationships between China and South Africa through cultural diplomacy.
NAC Council Chairperson, H.R.H Princess Celenhle Dlamini is a guest speaker at the HKPAX International Arts Leadership Round Table on the 18th October 2024. She will be accompanied by the NAC Interim CEO, Ms. Julie Diphofa and Senior Executives from the Playhouse Company (KwaZulu-Natal State theatre). The delegation will be exchanging South African cutting-edge performing art ideas and productions, with Art Executives from Hong Kong and around the globe, with a view to build valuable new collaborations for the South African arts sector.
