In early 2020, economic forecasts predicted that the COVID-19 pandemic and any associated restrictions would have negative outcomes for the arts, culture and heritage, and media and broadcasting sectors (‘the cultural sector’). These economic outcomes were expected to hit the cultural sector twice as hard as the broader economy due to heightened risks to individual employment and organisational viability. Many core activities in the sector could not take place or were postponed, resulting in a significant loss of revenue.
