TRA and BASATA sign agreement to exchange information and manage artists' income

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has entered into an agreement with the Tanzania Arts Council (BASATA) to exchange information and study systems for managing income from artists, as well as identifying paying and unchartered artists.

Speaking to reporters on December 24, 2024 in Dar es Salaam at the event, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Chief Commissioner Yusuph Mwenda will be able to identify and identify which artists and how many are paying and not paying taxes.

He also said that artists will earn a large amount of money through their work, so it is important that they contribute to the nation through tax but also the taxes they will pay are small and will not be taxed.

"The artist who has less than 170,000 income the Government has forgiven, who has the income that exceeds it will contribute a small amount, the artist who starts his company with income less than Milion.4 per month will be exempt from paying taxes but with annual income ranging from Mil.7 will contribute 100,000 per month, and the one who has the income of Sh.7 to Mil. 11 He will pay two and a half lakh per month (250,000) with income ranging from Mil. 11 to 100 a month will contribute three-and-a-half percent of what he earns." In addition, Commissioner Mwenda said the agreement would facilitate the study of the systems between TRA and BASATA in the development and development of the country's arts sector.

He said this was in the implementation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan's order to require institutions, public companies and the study of systems and information.

The Executive Secretary of BASATA, Dr. Kedmon Pana, said this system is going to revolutionize the arts sector for all artists, including singers, painters, MCs, sculptors and others who enter the art industry.

He said they would give the government a boost to support the sector as artists pay taxes, including systems that will help artists and arts stakeholders operate without any disruption as the systems are being read.
