Gimistory - the International Storytelling Festival of the Cayman Islands
Co-hosted by Cayman National Cultural Foundation,
24 November 2006, Cayman Islands
Now in its eighth year, Gimistory brings together storytellers from Cayman, the Caribbean and as far a field as Europe and Africa. The Cayman National Cultural Foundation produces Gimistory as part of its mission to preserve the culture of Cayman. The festival is seen as a revival of the storytelling tradition. Since its start in 1999 Gimistory has become increasingly popular among families in Cayman. In 2004, just eight weeks after Hurricane Ivan devastated Cayman the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, realizing the emotional relief that could be delivered to the community managed to stage Gimistory to record audiences.
This year Gimistory runs from November 24th to December 2nd. Local storytellers will be joined by 19 tellers from overseas in a series of presentations that use music, dramatics and comedy to entertain under the night sky. Adding to the feeling of returning to a simpler time are the venues, backyards and beaches, and free admission.
