Freelance Researcher

Creative Exchange is looking for a freelance researcher for a 12-month pilot research project, Routemapping Culture and Development, funded by the UK Department for International Development. Routemapping will provide unique and valuable new information on the role of culture within the development sector. It will review the extent of culture and development practice within a sample of 5 mainstream development agencies in the UK. The project will need an experienced researcher with expertise in and understanding of the development sector and of the use of culture, arts and media within sustainable development programmes. They will work in close partnership with Creative Exchange's coordinator and with key workers within the development agencies. Outputs will include a report including outline guidance on best practice, and a statistical base line for the use of cultural approaches within development agencies. The report will be assessed by DFID for possible publication. The project will involve around 21 days of international research visits in one or two blocks. Candidates should be cleared to work in the UK in a freelance capacity and for overseas travel. About Creative Exchange: Creative Exchange is an emerging network, nationally and internationally, for Culture and Development and arts in social inclusion. It has grown from a small voluntarily resourced organisation, to an internationally recognised network of 150+ partners, in four years. It is developing its team and project portfolio, to which Routemapping Culture and Development is a significant addition. *The Creative Exchange office will be staffed on a periodic basis throughout August.
