Online event, 10 May 2022, 11.00 AM - 1.00 PM UTC (registration required)
The 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture 2023 will bring to Stockholm, Sweden, leading policy makers, researchers, managers and practitioners from the arts, culture and related sectors to explore artistic freedom as a fundamental pillar of cultural policy and examine how we can – and why we should – safeguard artistic freedom.
We begin the conversations in the lead up to 2023 with the launch of the 9th World Summit Discussion Paper at a virtual public event on 10 May 2022 from 11.00 AM - 1.00 PM UTC.
The 9th World Summit Discussion Paper, which will be released on 3 May, intends to spark initial thinking around some of the complex issues surrounding artistic freedom and the ways in which we might respond.
This launch event brings together the co-hosts of the Summit, the Swedish Arts Council and the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), and the eight cultural experts from different world regions who have contributed to the Discussion Paper (Lead Author Sara Whyatt as well as Irene Agrivina, Basma El Husseiny, Dr Katalin Krasznahorkai, Maria Lind, Roxana Miranda Rupailaf, Letila Mitchell and Patrick Sam).
The event programme includes the authors in conversation with each other on their essays, which collectively explore diverse interpretations and lived experiences of artistic freedom, and a policy discussion on legislative and regulatory frameworks that enable and safeguard artistic freedom and changes needed in the current policy landscape.
