Inside Nigeria’s ambitious plan to make creative IP bankable

Nigeria has rolled out a novel intellectual property policy designed to turn creative works into economic assets, as the services sector now makes up over half of the country’s GDP.

The National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy, approved by the federal executive council to enter implementation in 2026, looks to strengthen the legal and regulatory structures for commercialising ideas in media, technology, tourism, and the creative economy.
