4th International Congress of Culture and Development
06 June 2005 – 09 June 2005, Cuba
The International Congresses of Culture and Development, held in Havana, Cuba, have historically offered an important space for analysis, reflection, discussion and exchange relating to current world-wide cultural development and perspectives, featuring leading cultural figures from around the globe.
The Cuban Ministry of Culture, supported by UNESCO, UNICEF, O.E.I., the Convenio Andrés Bello, and the Latin American Economic System, SELA, invites participation in the 4th International Congress of Culture and Development, to be held at the Havana International Conference Centre, Havana from 6-9 June, 2005.
The 4th Congress will again offer the opportunity for debate and exchange. Artists, critics, researchers, cultural managers and development agents, along with government authorities, international organisations and institutions, will discuss topics such as:
defending diversity of identity;
memory and living sources of diversity (oral histories, arts, culture);
heritage and its relationship to tourism;
the role of intellectuals, artists and cultural policy makers in the 21st Century;
beyond folklore: imaginary and popular culture; and
city, neighborhood and community cultures.
Papers and abstracts on a variety of these issues will be accepted until March 19th, 2005.
