Annual Research Conference, the Association of Cultural Economics Japan

13 June 2009 – 14 June 2009, Japan

The Japan Association of Cultural Economics (JACE) is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for its Annual Research Conference.  With a view to hosting the biannual conference of the Association of Cultural Economics International (ACEI) to Japan in 2012, this Research Conference will welcome papers in English for international researchers, both based overseas and those residing in Japan, that will contribute to discussions and exchanges of ideas on various issues in the field of cultural economics as widely defined between Japanese and international participants.  The city of Kani, a remote small-scale city, is well-known in Japan for its cultural centre, municipally-funded and run by Kisei Ei, a Member of the ACEJ Board, is the host of the conference, providing an exciting example for the innovative ways in which local participation in the arts and culture is promoted and contributes to community building.

Topics of papers previously presented have included creative cities, government funding for the arts, government policy for nonprofit organizations in the arts and culture, cultural participation, case studies of community development with the use of the arts and comparative study of cultural policy.  The proposal can go beyond this list, as long as it addresses political, economic or organizational issues surrounding the creative, cultural sector.  The paper does not need to be based on neo-classical economics, but could be from diverse disciplines such as sociology, cultural studies, geography, politics and policy studies.

We expect to have at least one session specifically allocated to international researchers, with commentators and the chair selected from the members of the JACE.  Attendance fee will be charged, but there will be no obligation to join the membership of the JACE.
