ArtLab 11. Dialogues about Cultural Management

Co-hosted by Fondazione Fitzcarraldo,
22 September 2011 – 24 September 2011, Italy

International debates on cultural co-production, cooperation and cross-border mobility are held at the 6th Edition of Fondazione Fitzcarraldo’s annual meeting on cultural management.

Next September, from the 22nd to the 24th, we’ll be travelling South of Italy for the latest edition of ArtLab11 Dialogues about Cultural Management: the annual meeting organized by Fondazione Fitzcarraldo where artists, cultural managers, researchers and decision makers can share their experiences about the state of art of cultural management and politics in Italy and in the international ground. As in the previous editions, this year’s overall programme foresees several international events focused on issues regarding cross-border cultural and artistic mobility, co-production and cooperation.

ArtLab will be hosting the international workshop entitled “Encouraging cross-border cultural mobility”, with the support of the PRACTICS project and the participation of project partners and experts. The workshop marks the end of PRACTICS, a 3-year project coordinated by Fondazione Fitzcarraldo and funded by the European Commission about mobility in the cultural sector. During the workshop the PRACTICS partners will be presenting the final results and recommendations of the project, including a Handbook on how to set up a mobility infopoint. In addition to that, this year, international experts and cultural operators will speak about mobility from and to the Balkans and the Mediterranean, two strategic areas for the future of Europe. On Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd a Mobility Infopoint will be set up where customized information on mobility related issues will be provided to ArtLab’s participants.

Two relevant publications on mobility and cooperation will be presented at ArtLab. One is the Directory on International Funding Opportunities, by Fundaciò Interarts, On-the-Move network and Wales Arts International. This is the result of a research carried out in early 2011 on international funding opportunities for artists’ mobility. The final document gathers information about over 700 funding schemes provided by European and other international organizations. The second one is the International Co-production Manual launched by IETM – International Network for Contemporary Arts – and KAMS – Korea Arts Management – and addressed to cultural operators and artists interested by cooperation in Asia, in Europe and between Asia and Europe.

This year’s programme also includes several presentations of other international artistic initiatives focused on topics like mobility, artistic exchange and cooperation, and community interventions and development through arts and culture.

On Friday we’ll have a conference on artist’s residences in Italy through ON-AIR project and the Bjcem Association will be presenting the new format of the XV Edition of the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and Mediterranean. Also on Friday morning the Canadian foundation Musagetes will be discussing their projects in Lecce and their concept of Musagetes Café. Another relevant event will be the presentation of the Europe-wide campaign for the arts and culture We are more – act for culture in Europe.

The international programme of ArtLab will be closing on Saturday afternoon with the plenary session “North Africa and Middle East in turbulence - an insight from the artistic and cultural scene”, an overview about the role of arts and culture in the political changes in this region.

This edition of ArtLab will be under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and it is expected the participation of around 500 artists, researches, trainers and other cultural stakeholders that for two days will be sharing visions on the current future of arts and culture, in Puglia, a landmark of the cooperation and networking among local cultural organizations and Balkan and Mediterranean countries.
