Conference 'Our Countries, Our Culture: Policies, Practices, Perspectives'. Social Theory, Politics and the Arts (STPA) is an interdisciplinary gathering of researchers, policy-makers, practitioners and students that explores key trends, practices and policy issues affecting the arts around the world. The conference is held at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge on 18-12 October, 2012.
LSU has a particular commitment to the principles of multi-culturalism. First, it is located in the heart of a state which is one of the most racially and religiously diverse states in the U.S. Second, the city of New Orleans is unique in the influence of African- American cultural creativity and its wide variety of entertainment venues. Third, the Acadiana region is arguably the best example of an American cultural space; in the words of Delhomme, "magical."
As a university, LSU has been sensitive to the cultural dimensions of American life. The study of International Relations, which is found in various departments, recognizes the importance of a global understanding. LSU extends a warm welcome to the cultural researchers gathered at STPA.
