Tthe forthcoming 2nd Russian Congress in Cultural Studies with international participation will take place in St.Petersburg, Russia, from November 25 till 29, 2008.
The congress is organized under the auspices of the Russian Institute of Cultural Studies, acting in cooperation with a number of leading Russian scientific and educational institutions, including Russian State Pedagogical University, St.Petersburg State University, Russian State University of Humanities, Russian Christian Humanitarian Academy, Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St.Petersburg University of Culture and Arts, Scientific Council in Cultural Heritage of the Russian Academy of Sciences, International Association 'Russian Culture'.
The main topic of the congress has been determined as 'Cultural Diversity: from Past to Future'. However, reports dedicated to all fundamental problems in cultural studies would be warmly welcome.
The first day would be dedicated to theoretical aspects of cultural studies, the second one to their historical aspects, the third day to their comparative aspects, the fourth one to educational aspects (parallel sessions would be centered upon basic issues in actual art, as well as on problems and prospects of the 'Russian world'); the fifth day would be dedicated to fundamental aspects in cultural policies.
Cultural program of the Congress would include the 2nd Biennial Celebration of Contemporary Art.
Plenary sessions of the Congress would be conducted basing on the facilities of the historical building of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the historical centre of St.Petersburg. The congress would present an excellent opportunity to meet leading researchers from practically every region of the Russian-speaking world, as well as to see St.Petersburg, which is officially labeled as the 'Cultural Capital of Russia'.
Proceedings of the Congress would be published as part of the series of monographs in 'Fundamental Aspects in Cultural Studies', an ongoing edition of the St.Petersburg Branch of the Russian Institute of Cultural Studies.
The Congress would be conducted in Russian.
Foreign colleagues are welcome to take part in all the works of the congress. Simultaneous English translation of all the invited reports would be provided by the Organizing Committee. Registration fees for foreign participants is $200.
