Cultural Economics Perspective of Heritage and Museums

Museums are facing great challenges nowadays. The question is whether cultural heritage is sufficiently appreciated.

The cultural economic perspective shows how to combine economic values with cultural values to realize the values of museums and cultural heritage. The perspective has proven to be effective to face the new challenges. This course teaches participants the basic insights of the cultural economic perspective and will show how they can improve the operation and financing of museums and cultural heritage projects. It will introduce powerful ideas and concepts that can be put to immediate use.

Program
The course is designed to address the specific need of participants working and studying in the field of museums and cultural heritage. Acknowledging the opportunities and risks connected to museums conservation and governance the course aims to stimulate new ideas on the topic.  The course addresses the organization, the financing as well as the marketing of cultural heritage. And it will reveal the special characteristics of good cultural entrepreneurship and cultural leadership. Participant will learn from actual cases, interact with knowledgeable and inspiring faculty, brainstorm with other practitioners, and take home useful texts, new ideas, contacts, and inspiration to do things better.

Faculty
Participants will learn from scholars who are working and doing research on the economic perspective of cultural heritage and museums: professor dr. Benhamou Francoise (University Paris 13 and Institut National du patrimoine, Paris), professor dr. Arjo Klamer (Erasmus University, Rotterdam), dr. Anna Mignosa (Catania University). The course is open to:
•Professionals working in the museums and cultural heritage sector,
•Policy makers dealing with cultural heritage and museum,
•Lecturers and researches who are interested in the museums and cultural heritage sector

A limited number of graduate students can participate based on their involvement in the topic.

Maximum of 20 participants will be admitted.

Fees and Accommodation
The tuition fee is € 1600 euro. The fee includes refreshments, materials, field trips, lunches and excludes accommodation and diners.

The Centre for Research in Arts and Economics provides two grants covering 50 percent of the tuition fee. Candidates are invited to send their CV, motivation letter and a recommendation letter. Candidates who plan to follow more than one course will receive a discount of 15 percent of the tuition fees.

Academic Credits
Participants receive a Certificate for attendance after successful completion of the course. The graduate students can receive 3 ECTS. Those who need academic credit should contacts us beforehand to discuss current school’s requirements.
