CULTURAL INDUSTRIES: BRITISH EXPERIENCE IN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
02 February 2006 – 03 February 2006, Germany
A two-day workshop organized by the Centre for British Studies, Humboldt-University, Berlin, February 2nd and 3rd, 2006.
Film, theatre and cinema, pop music, design, museums and galleries, commercial sporting events – these and other branches of the cultural industries are all-pervasive in the lives and minds of the contemporary public, at the close of the 20th and turn of the 21st centuries.
In Britain the “cultural industries” have a long tradition, reaching back to early modern times, and they are today among the most successful in the world. Accordingly they have always had a central place in the research and teaching of the Centre for British Studies.
We aim to maintain an informal, working atmosphere and give room for discussion of 20- minute papers (in English or German) to encourage discussion and enquire into opportunities of future co-operation.
The workshop will take place from February 2nd and 3rd , 2006. It is open to researchers from all disciplines and levels of expertise – from advanced students to professors – and aims to stimulate the mutual exchange of interdisciplinary and international insights.
