Les Rencontres Board Meeting and Annual General Meeting
Pécs, Hungary, 3-6 March 2010

As traditionally the Board Meeting and Annual General Meeting of Les rencontres take place in the European Capital of Culture, so as to underline the importance of this emblematic EU programme, the city of Pécs, Hungary, designated as European Capital of Culture for 2010 with Istanbul and Essen, will welcome the meeting entitled The Economic Slowdown and the Future of Local Cultural Policies on 3-6 March 2010.

Considering the difficult economic situation that States and local authorities are facing, the meeting is to initiate a reflection on local cultural policies in times of economic crisis. Thus, this meeting will be an occasion to assess together the impacts of the crisis and to analyze the perspectives for the local cultural policies. The point is to lead a common thought in order to draw up together proposals, to maintain the cultural development and to reassert the importance, in a long-term vision, of the role of the local and regional authorities.
