Cultural promotion involves projects, programmes and strategies as well as institutions that implement them. How can their impact be assessed? What control mechanisms are there and what is learnt from all the experience made?
The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia und «Migros-Kulturprozent», two nationally operating cultural promotion bodies, have studied these issues and are set to publicise the results. On 13 November, they will host a conference entitled «Evaluieren der Kultur - wann, warum, was und wie?» (evaluating culture - when, why, what and how?).
Ten experts from Switzerland and abroad will give presentations and conduct workshops. Key topics will be objectives, impact, indicators and evaluation phases. The conference is aimed at cultural managers, event organisers, sponsors and other interested parties who would like some first-hand, practical information on what evaluation means in this context and how it is conducted. The deadline for registration is 17 October.
A set of guidelines will be issued on the conference day providing a theoretical basis and practical advice for evaluating work in the field of culture. The publication can subsequently be obtained free of charge from the two organising institutions or downloaded from their website.
