Fourth Federal Congress on Cultural Policy

07 June 2007 – 08 June 2007, Germany

Europe is a continent of culture and a great attraction - a fact of which Europeans themselves are often the least aware. The variety of languages, cultures, traditions and forms of artistic expression, and also the wealth of the cultural heritage and the diversity and quality of the offerings and activities in the different branches of the arts, are considered to be creativity and identity resources that make Europe stand out in the world. But does Europe also exploit this potential at home? Is the existing cultural diversity in itself really sufficient as an identification offering for creating a Europe of the Citizens? If it is true that the Cultural Power Europe is attractive to people of all continents, also because of its cultural potentials, is European cultural policy then not more challenged to actively field these forces of attraction in the world of global competition? The Fourth Federal Congress on Cultural Policy will look into these questions.
