Introduction

In Brazil and in other Latin American countries there has been an important growth, during the last decades, in socio-cultural programs that have music as their central axis. Many of these actions have had positive results and their importance is acknowledged, but their practices, socio-pedagogical guidelines and methodological principles are still lacking promotion, discussion, and sharing with similar initiatives and with the academic sector. Their stories, experiences, accomplished challenges and future goals should be reflected upon and analysed in order to create a network of mutual support and to offer theoretical, technical and technological tools for the implementation and to devise the foundations of rising projects.

To promote the existing initiatives and encourage the creation of new programs and projects, apart from promoting the creation of an international cooperation network, Santa Marcelina Cultura, social organization responsible of Guri Santa Marcelina program, Sao Paulo Government, SESC Sao Paulo and The Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID), through the Spanish Cultural Centre of Sao Paulo and the program ACERCA, will carry out the Ibero-American Seminar on Musical Education and Social Inclusion, on November 9-12 at the Anchieta Theatre at SES Consolação.
