International Conference on Music Education, Equity, and Social Justice
06 October 2006 – 08 October 2006, USA
The program in music and music education at Teachers College Columbia University will sponsor an international conference to disseminate research in music education that investigates issues of educational equity and social justice. Challenging questions surround the conference theme. How do issues of equity inform music teaching and learning? What does it mean to teach music through the lens of social justice or social consciousness? How is a philosophy of equity and democracy enacted? What can research on this topic reveal? This conference seeks to explore the relationships between meanings and practice, and to provide implications for further study in this field. [Text from Cultural Commons]
