International Conference on Traditional Knowledge

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India is organizing an International Conference on Traditional Knowledge at FICCI, New Delhi, on November 13, 2009.

This international conference will assist stakeholders in sharing their experiences, articulate views and provide meaningful recommendations regarding

i) The State of Play in the International Protection of Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs); and

ii) The Effective Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions: National and Community Experiences.

Distinguished speakers from India, Kenya, Australia, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Mexico, South Africa, Indonesia and the United States of America will address the following themes:

Theme 1: The State of Play in the International Protection of Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs)
Theme 2: The Effective Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions: National and Community Experiences
The Forum is open to WIPO Member States and WIPO accredited international organizations engaged in the protection and promotion of TK and TCEs. IP professionals and representatives of the private sector and the research and academic communities are also invited to participate.
