Moving Territories: Culture in a Europe of Regions

The 12th Annual General Assembly of the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage (EFAH) and a conference entitled Moving Territories: Culture in a Europe of Regions, will be held in Lille, France, from 28-31 October 2004.
Europe's regions are extremely important politico-administrative entities. The aim of this conference is to place the issues of culture and cultural development at the core of the debates on decentralisation, regionalisation, distinction and social and economic development.
The conference will address primarily cultural networks and regional cultural policymakers, and will focus on the following areas:
The role of the regions in counterbalancing the centralisation and standardisation inherent in European integration process
The possible role of the regions in the development of a cultural dimension of an emerging European foreign cultural policy
The regions' potential to transform their cultural heritage into a dynamic field of 'cultural memory
The European Capital of Culture - its impact on regional cultural development
Creation of regional cultural structures and processes that can complement national and European interests in furthering international cultural cooperation
Emblematic regional cultural institutions, policies and programmes, considered for their capacity to develop intercultural competence
