Summer Course on Cultural Economics: The Value of Culture

The readings of the course will underscore the interdisciplinary character of the course, drawing on dissenting voices in both the humanities and economics, as well as sociological perspectives on the economy of the arts. Apart from discussing the readings, the material of the course will include imaginative economics, that is representations of the economy in works and performances of artists. Furthermore, one afternoon will be devoted to visiting galleries, and discussing course topics with artists and art dealers.
The course is intended for people active in the arts, cultural policy makers, managers, marketeers and fund raisers working in cultural organisations, as well as any social scientists interested in the arts, and humanities scholars interested in social and economic perspectives. All lectures are in English.
The course fee is € 775 which includes a welcome drink, coffee & tea, all course materials, lunches and one dinner. A limited number of scholarships is available for students from Central & Eastern Europe, and Turkey (course fee, accommodation and meals). These do not cover any travel expenses and are subject to a selection procedure. In order to apply for a scholarship, you need to send in a letter of motivation & a recommendation from a professional colleague, together with your application form and recent curriculum vitae.
Participants are required to register on Sunday 4 August from 16.00 - 17.00 at Felix Meritis, Keizersgracht 324, Amsterdam. This will be followed by an informal drinks reception for all participants and lecturers.
