World Social Forum 2005

26 January 2005 – 31 January 2005, Brazil

World Social Forum 2005 The World Social Forum is an international framework for all those opposed to globalisation and building alternatives to think and organise together in favour of human development, social and cultural international relations. In 2001, the first World Social Forum brought together some 20,000 participants, around 4,700 of them delegates for a wide range of organisations from 117 countries. At the 5th World Social Forum, organisers are seeking to enlarge convergences and multiply dialogues during the event. The agenda is proposed by WSF 2005 participant organisations and will map themes that include:
  • Common good versus commodification
  • Peace, demilitarisation and struggle against war, free trade and debt
  • Autonomous thought, reappropriation and socialisation of knowledge and technologies
  • Defending diversity, plurality and identities
  • Social struggles and democratic alternatives
  • Communication: counter-hegemonic practices, rights and alternatives
  • Arts and creation: weaving and building people’s resistance culture The 5th World Social Forum will take place from Jan 26-31 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. For further information, visit www.forumsocialmundial.org.br/home.asp
