IFACCA’s African Chapter Meeting to coincide with Pan African Cultural Congress in Johannesburg

Delegates from approximately 10 countries are expected to attend the 4th IFACCA African Chapter Meeting which will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday 24 May, to coincide with the African Union’s 4th Pan African Cultural Congress.

The Chapter meeting, which is co-hosted by IFACCA and the National Arts Council of South Africa, will provide delegates with the opportunity to discuss a range of issues of interest to members as well as IFACCA’s new Strategic Plan 2015 – 2020.  This will include consideration of programs such as: networking, including the World Summit on Arts and Culture; advocacy, including the sustainable development goals; knowledge and analysis, including a survey of national arts agencies; and capacity building, including the 2016 CEO Seminar.

Sarah Gardner, IFACCA’s Executive Director, and Ayeta Wangusa, IFACCA’s new Regional Coordinator for Africa, will both attend the meeting. 

Ms Gardner and Ms Wangusa have also been selected by UNESCO to be part of its Expert Facility aimed at supporting capacity development initiatives for the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The training for this Expert Facility will take place the week prior to the African Chapter Meeting, in Casablanca, Morocco.
