A member of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), MyPAA Malaysia is seeking preliminary expressions of interest in hosting the 6th and 7th Borak Arts SeriesTM to be held in the period of late-2018 and late-2019 respectively.
Borak Arts SeriesTM serves as a platform for artistes, managers, presenters/producers, intermediaries, funders, agents, festival directors, venue programmers and art and culture enthusiasts to take discussions forward to break boundaries and strengthen relationships across ASEAN communities and beyond. The boutique conference has gained traction as a brand value known within the arts and cultural sector at a local and international level with a media value amounting to MYR10million and has hosted more than 800 delegates from 14 countries, including from ASEAN, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, the United States, Australia and India, only to name a few.
Year on year, Borak Arts SeriesTM brings the right enablers into the platform and increases opportunities for ASEAN artistes to contribute to the social, creative and economic sustainability of the sector. It has also grown into the point of convergence for both the public and private sectors to come together to engage the performing arts communities in addition to introducing networks and providing market access to the communities.
Borak Arts SeriesTM is an intense weekend of opportunities for performing arts practitioners and more to engage in professional development, watch live performance showcases, participate in trade meetings, pitch at Southeast Asia’s only performing arts marketplace, network with colleagues and conduct business. It promotes accessibility of information, tools and ideas on how to bring works or discussions forward via keynote addresses and panel discussions, encourage cultural mobility and create alliances that would assist in building a conducive performing arts ecosystem for local and the Southeast Asian performing arts communities.
The first two Borak Arts SeriesTM were organised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 and 2016, Borak Arts SeriesTM was hosted in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia, under the programming of the internationally renowned, George Town Festival. The selection of the host for the 6th and 7th Borak Arts SeriesTM go through two stages:
- The submission of a Preliminary Expression of Interest, and
- The submission of a Final Proposal from those countries that have been shortlisted
