On 14-16 November 2016, IFACCA participated in the International Forum on Cultural Rights and Human Rights in Mexico City.
The Forum was organised and co-hosted by the UNESCO Field Office in Mexico, the Secretariat of Culture and the Mexican Ministry of the Interior with the Collaboration of the National Commission on Human Rights.
The general topics of the conference were: culture and human rights; access and participation in cultural life; freedom of expression and access to information; cultural rights and education; and culture, health and access to the benefits of scientific progress. Annamari Laaksonen, IFACCA's Research Manager presented on the topic of Cultural Rights and Public Policy.
Other international speakers included Elsa Stamatopoulou, Director of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Program of the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University and Celio Turino, former Secretary of Cultural Citizenship of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil and catalyst of the Points of Culture program. Speakers from Mexico included representatives of Indigenous peoples, different artistic and creative sectors, and related academic and policy disciplines.
