This past summer, five artists and designers travelled to the Land Down Under for a learning experience like no other. The group joined Indigenous fashion artists from Australia and New Zealand for ten days of exchange, fashion and inspiration in Darwin, Australia, as part of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.
The Canada Council for the Arts is part of a unique tri-nation agreement with Creative Australia and Creative New Zealand. The Council, with funding through its Creating, Knowing and Sharing program, was able to support a delegation of five in their participation at this knowledge-sharing event.
The five delegates who attended this year’s fair hail from different Indigenous nations in Canada, each of them bringing a unique voice to the continuity of Indigenous fashion through textile, performance-based and embodied arts involving dress and adornment.
