The Government has appointed Eva Bergquist as Director General of the Swedish Arts Council. Eva Bergquist joins us from Region Stockholm, where she was Director of Culture. She will take up her position as Director-General on 1 August.
"Eva Bergquist has long and broad experience covering the local, regional, state and international perspectives in the entire cultural area. I am therefore very pleased that she has accepted the assignment," says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand in a press release.
The Minister of Culture also takes the opportunity to extend a warm thank you to Kajsa Ravin for her six years as Director General of the Swedish Arts Council 2020–2026.
Eva Bergquist has been Director of Culture in Region Stockholm since 2014. She has previously been program director at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern and project manager for the merger between Stockholm City Theater and Kulturhuset. She has also served as Cultural Counsellor at the Swedish Embassy in Washington and before that as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture. Last spring, she also led the one-year film inquiry.
"I am happy and honoured and look forward to taking on the assignment. With my long experience of cultural policy at local, regional, national and international level, I look forward to leading this particular cultural authority that is so central to the development and dissemination of the arts," says Eva Bergquist.
Eva Bergquist's appointment extends until 31 July 2030.
The Swedish Arts Council's Chief of Staff Klara Tomson is acting Director-General until Eva Bergquist takes office.
