It doesn’t take much to ignite someone’s spark. As Ryan Veltmeyer saw first-hand, for one young boy, all it took was a boom box, a laptop and a small corner of a public library. At the time, Veltmeyer was working as the Teen Services Coordinator for Halifax Public Libraries, where he quickly learned that reaching teens—especially those facing adversity—was easier said than done. “It is so hard to get through to those kids because of the situations they’re in,” he says.
