With the release of the Culture Compass for Europe in November 2025, the European Union finds itself, for the first time in close to ten years, with a genuine chance to reconsider how it approaches its cultural relations with the rest of the world. Among its commitments, the Commission is now expected to bring forward a fresh strategy in this area, building on the 2016 Joint Communication and drawing on the ‘Team Europe’ model of more closely coordinated external partnerships.
