This month, Ms Karima Bennoune concludes her term as United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights and on 26 October she will speak at a webinar for the launch of the Special Rapporteur’s final report to the United Nations General Assembly. We celebrate Ms Bennoune’s achievements and leadership in the field of cultural rights and thank her for her inspiring work and manifold collaborations with IFACCA during her mandate. We also take the opportunity to congratulate Ms Alexandra Xanthaki, who has been appointed the new United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights and look forward to supporting her mandate.
The UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights invites your input for consideration as she develops her next report for the UN General Assembly, which will address how actors from across the cultural ecosystem access and use public spaces, identify the challenges they face and the strategies they develop to overcome them, and analyse the impact this has on their cultural rights.

The National Council of Arts and Culture of Chile (CNCA) has invited our Head of Knowledge and Analysis, Annamari Laaksonen, to present on cultural rights and public policy at the National Convention for Culture in late August in Arica, Northern Chile.
On 14-16 November 2016, IFACCA participated in the International Forum on Cultural Rights and Human Rights in Mexico City.
On 25-26 September 2013 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the European Cultural Parliament staged a Symposium on Freedom of Expression. IFACCA partnered in the event and has been supported by Creative Scotland to bring a variety of guests from Commonwealth countries to participate.
