Held at the spanking new Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff on Wednesday, November 25, here's your opportunity to share best practice, network and catch up with the latest developments in arts marketing. There will be something for everyone at all levels, whether you're from a small or large organisation, a producer or presenter of the arts.

Hard Times? The impact of the recession on audiences for the arts- Heather Maitland.
Britain's new love of 'Staycations' hit the headlines this summer. Thanks to the recession, staying at home was the preferred option for many of us. But is this why ticket sales at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe were up on last year's? For many people monthly mortgage repayments are down. But what are they doing with the extra money in their pockets? Arts Consultant, Heather Maitland, will look at the hard evidence on how the recession is really affecting audiences for the arts in Wales and beyond.
How social media has changed the game -DK
DK, the Social Media expert from South Wales based 'MediaSnackers', will take a look at the future of new technologies and digital communications for marketing the arts in Wales. How can we understand and effectively use the extraordinary phenomenon that is "social media" as a marketing tool to develop audiences and participation in the arts?
In addition, Welsh National Opera will present an interactive seminar which will look at their new audience segmentation model. Audiences Wales, National Theatre Wales and Creu Cymru will discuss the findings from 'Identifying the Potential', the most comprehensive assessment of drama audiences ever undertaken in Wales.
Wales Millennium Centre's Marketeers, Tabitha Milne and Gareth Lloyd will focus on the centre's successful 'Make it Yours' bilingual marketing campaign. Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Propeller Theatre will discuss their recent successful collaboration showing that venues and touring companies can make beautiful friendships together and develop audiences too.
Chris Denton, Head of Marketing at The Barbican Theatre, will be looking at how to build a successful brand from visual identity to keeping promises. And why not delve into the four possible future worlds of the arts; 'Karaoke Queen', 'Wonderful Electric', 'Fire in my Heart' and 'California Dreamin', the intriguing premise set out by University of Glamorgan's Centre for Research and Innovation's Gethin While and Martin Rhisiart.
Market Intelligence Manager at Audiences South, Leo Sharrock, will present a practical workshop seminar which aims to help you to make your business and marketing planning more efficient by using research effectively.
Arts Council of Wales's Chief Executive, Nick Capaldi, will also be sharing his thoughts with Symposium participants and will look at how we in the art sector can thrive and not just survive in a difficult economic climate.

Keynote Speakers Biographies:
Heather Maitland is an arts consultant, author, lecturer and an Associate Fellow with the Centre for Cultural Policy Studies at the University of Warwick. She has worked as a marketer for a wide range of arts organisations and has headed two of the UK's audience development agencies. Her current projects include profiling audiences for jazz across the East Midlands, benchmarking audiences in the Republic of Ireland and helping Rich Mix, London's foremost centre for culturally diverse arts, to write a marketing strategy. Heather has written eight books on arts marketing and audience development and writes regular columns for the Journal of Arts Marketing and Arts Professional. She has delivered seminars and training programmes across the world. Heather is chair of the European Blues Association.

DK is the founder of MediaSnackers, a Social Media Consultancy based in Tongwynlais, South Wales.
MediaSnackers was a term DK coined back in early 2006 whilst describing what young people were doing with media -- the site was launched a few months later. DK has an educational background in communications and media, plus a professional background in local government and was the UK's first and only Corporate Youth Officer.
