A Sense of Place
Co-hosted by British Council,
24 November 2003 – 27 November 2003, United Kingdom
A conference taking place in Cardiff, Wales from November 24-27 will focus on how the arts, culture and media can help reshape societies and identities.
The event, 'A Sense of Place – Displacement and Integration' aims to consider how societies are in flux, how cities are in transition, and how rebuilding is taking place on a physical and psychological level, in light of heightened public fear and evolving European human rights and immigration policies.
Over the four days, the conference will attempt to address issues such as how different cultures can enrich host countries, the role of arts in education, and how displaced artists are contributing to innovative arts practice, as well as using artistic expression to re-encounter or redefine their identity.
The event will provide practical tools for a range of disciplines, such as educational resources and guidance on programming arts by displaced peoples into mainstream cultural and artistic activity.
'A Sense of Place' will include keynote presentations, debates, Q&A sessions and workshops, as well as visual arts exhibitions, performances and film screenings.
