Asia: National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN)

10 May 2019, International

Each IFACCA Regional Group has a Regional Focal Point. This is a National Member institution of the Federation that liaises with members in the region and organises a meeting of members or other joint initiative. The role of Regional Focal Point is for a fixed period and is open to all National Members on a rotating basis.

The National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), Malaysia is our first Regional Focal Point for Asia. It assumed the role in February 2018 when we introduced the RFP programme, as the hosts for the next Asia Chapter Meeting and 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture. The official RFP representative is Tan Sri Norliza Rofli, Director General of JKKN.

The National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) implements arts and culture activities in Malaysia. An agency of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, JKKN is responsible for preserving and promoting arts and culture, supporting cultural infrastructure, and carrying out research.

REGIONAL INITIATIVES

The National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) will host the 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture in March 2019. The 8th World Summit will bring together leading policy makers, researchers, managers and practitioners from the arts and culture sector from around the world to address the theme of Mobile Minds: Culture, Knowledge and Change, and explore key issues that affect public support for the arts and creativity.

In November 2017, JKKN hosted the 48th IFACCA Board meeting. Alongside the Board meeting, the IFACCA Board attended the 52nd Meeting of ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
