Buying into heritage: gift shops at heritage attractions

30 April 2010, England

This one day workshop will explore what gift shops are doing at heritage attractions. Why are there gift shops? What do visitors do in them? What do they buy? And what do gift shops to do for heritage sites?

During the course of the day, we will explore ‘what works’ at gift shops, what visitors expect and desire, how gift shop management can adapt their product range to meet visitor demands, and how gift shops can best complement the specific heritage offer. The workshop will shed new light on the role of gift shops, their management, how they contribute to visitor experiences of heritage and how they are linked into wider employment, economic and production networks.
