Crossing Borders - Building Bridges
26 November 2003, United Kingdom
'Crossing Borders - Building Bridges' will take place as a part of the British Council-sponsored four day conference 'A Sense of Place'.
'Crossing Borders - Building Bridges' will include an evening of inspiring performances and collaborations by artists from around the world who have chosen to make Britain their home.
Many of the performers came to the UK to seek sanctuary, and have since settled here. All of them either have personal experience of displacement, or their performance deals with issues raised by the process of leaving the familiarity of home and settling in a strange environment.
The concert aims to demonstrate the wealth of talent and cultural riches that displaced people bring to this country, and counteract false stereotype of refugees as nothing but a drain on host communities.
