Fostering Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries
15 June 2005, United Kingdom
A one-day conference organised by The Surrey Institute of Art & Design University College is to explore entrepreneurship within the creative industries in the South East region. Titled 'Raising the Odds – Fostering Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries', the conference will examine the challenges facing entrepreneurs in the development of their creative businesses.
Through a combination of presentations and interactive tasks, the event will focus on the support available to new and growing businesses, on the government agenda in relation to entrepreneurship and on the role that higher education plays in this sector. Developed as part of The Surrey Institute's Creative Enterprise Initiative (CEI), the conference will also present the outcomes of research commissioned by the CEI into the provision of creative incubator units, which help new creative companies to become established within the marketplace, in the South East. The CEI is run by the Institute's Business Development Unit and provides support for new business start-ups.
Keynote speakers at the conference include Richard Seymour, the co-founder and Director of product design agency, Seymourpowell, and an honorary graduate of The Surrey Institute, as well as Jeff Alexander, the Executive Director of Business & International, at SEEDA (the South East England Development Agency).
Aimed at those working within business and enterprise development in higher education institutions, support agencies and arts development agencies, the conference is to be held at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Wednesday 15 June, between 10am and 4.15pm.
