More Europe - Marseille debate

Challenges and perspectives for culture – Views from the Southern Mediterranean & Eastern Europe will take place in Marseilles on Thursday, 11 July from 9.30 to 16.30. The debates will focus on the role of culture in countries that have witnessed political and social changes in the context of democratic transitions, both in the Southern Mediterranean Region and Eastern Europe. It will also look at the mobility of artists and the innovation of cultural policy reform in these regions.

Three panels will feed the discussion between high-level policy makers from European institutions, cultural operators and international artists, including:

  • Leila Shahid, Ambassador for Palestine to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, More Europe patron
  • Pavol Demes, ECF Advisory Board, German Marshall Fund – Transatlantic fellow
  • Sofiane Ouissi, Choregrapher, creator of Dream City and Laaroussa
  • Péter Inkei, Director, the Budapest Cultural Observatory
  • Hugues Mingarelli, Managing director Middle East and Southern Neighbourhood, European External Action Service
  • Ferdinand Richard, President, Roberto Cimetta Fund
  • Fatin Farhat, Head of Unit, Municipality of Ramallah, Palestine
