Vienna Café Festival and Conference “The Viennese Café as an Urban Site of Cultural Exchange”, October 2008, London/UK
Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the multi-disciplinary research project “Viennese Café and Fin-de-siècle Culture” at the Royal College of Art London investigates the lasting significance of the Viennese café.
In October 2008, the Vienna Café Festival will take place, offering visitors the chance to experience the glamour and vitality of the old Viennese Cafés. There will be an exhibition at the Royal College of Art and a series of events across London, exploring different aspects of Viennese music and culture. The two-day international conference “The Viennese Café as an Urban Site of Cultural Exchange” takes place on Friday 17 October and Saturday 18 October at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The programme examines the café from a variety of perspectives, with the aim of deepening our understanding of the nature of this urban space, and the cultural exchanges and performances that went on there.
