Culture|Futures – the transition to an ecological age 2050

IFACCA,
09 November 2009, Denmark

Culture|Futures – the transition to an ecological age 2050  will be held in Copenhagen, 7-9 December 2009.

The conference will take place at the time of the UN Summit on Climate Change (COP15) and its outcomes are expected to contribute to COP15 as an official associated event.

The aim of the conference is to address the strategic role of culture in delivering an ecological transition by 2050. The strategic focus will be on art support policies, intercultural dialogue, creative cities and industries, and on research and development.  The conference is targeted at policy and decision-makers and strategic advisors in national and international organisations dealing with art and culture.

The partners organising this event are the Danish Cultural Institute (DCI) and Arup, a world leading consultancy in the development of low carbon and resource-efficient cities.

They are working closely with a number of international and national organisations, including European Union Network of Institutes of Culture (EUNIC), Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF), Cultura21, British Council, Goethe Institute, Italian Cultural Institute, Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA)(UK), Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP)(USA) as well as many others.

The conference builds, in part, on the work done by IFACCA and Arts Council England  with the D’Art Paper on arts and ecological sustainability, and IFACCA is working with the organisers to help promote the conference and its outcomes.

Ten places have been allocated to IFACCA members to attend the conference.  This will be a significant and strategically important conference and we encourage IFACCA members to take advantage of this opportunity.  Please note that a member’s delegate does not necessarily have to be a staff member of the arts council or ministry but could be a national expert or advisor, for example.

The Danish Arts Agency has co-funded the conference, and there are no registration fees.   However, travel and accommodation must be organised and paid for by participants.  Please note that IFACCA is not in a position to provide any support towards the costs of attendance by members.
