XI National Meeting of Audiovisual Archives

The meeting will take place at the University of Antioquia in Medellin and will focus on recovery, access, policies and new technologies for the audiovisual heritage of Colombia.

The Ministry of Culture will have an important role through the Film Board, the National Library, the Heritage Office, the General Archive of the Nation and the Department of Communications.


Under the Programme for Strengthening the Information System of the Colombian Audiovisual Heritage SIPAC, network of organizations and individuals working in the safeguarding of heritage of moving images, the Film Board of the Ministry of Culture, in association with the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation, the General Archive of the Nation, the School of Communications at the University of Antioquia, Medellin Mayor's Office, with the support of the Directorate of Communications and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the National Library of Colombia, are organizing the XI National Meeting of Audiovisual Archives of Colombia, ENAA.

This year the program of the meeting includes the participation of Marina Wainer (France); Visual Artis,  Specialist in Audiovisual Documentation and Start Value, Faculty of InaSUP - French National Audiovisual Institute and Gerardo Ojeda (Mexico); Researcher in Prometeo / SENECYT in the National Assembly of Ecuador, Consultant and Technical Secretary of the Spanish Association of Scientific Film and Image (ASECIC) in Madrid.

The Colombian Film Heritage Foundation gives out the lifelong audiovisual recognition award to  Irene Castillo de Rodríguez, Gloria Triana, Camila Loboguerrero, Nereo López, Julio Luzardo, Carlos Álvarez, Luis Ernesto Arocha, Jairo Mejía, Hernando González and Ricardo Quintero.

Photographer Nereo López will talk about his lifework of multiple specialties in filmmaking, and about Luis Ernesto Arocha that experiments with visual art.

Screenings of films restored by the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation will be shown during the five days of the event and present members of SIPAC will present their work of audiovisual preservation and conservation, pointing out the challenge of managing the huge historical backlog of records in motion pictures in Colombia and the challenge of obsolescence and disappearance of similar media and digital convergence which worries some. This group of individuals and entities, year after year, is progressing and growing.

The Colombian Film Heritage Foundation will present the achievements of the Colombian Audiovisual Heritage Building Program, funded by the Fund for Cinematography development that has obtained great results to uncover images and sounds stored for decades, and the fellows and mentors will present Grants Management Audiovisual Archives and Documentation Center of the Ministry of Culture.

In the field of public policy to safeguard the cultural heritage of our country, the National Library of Colombia, the General Archive of the Nation and Heritage and Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture will present the achievements of strengthening the collective work. The meeting will also discuss the status and prospects of audiovisual archives of the channels of public television network and universities.

The event makes visible the initiatives and passions that aim to foster access to a legacy of several generations that requires everyone's attention.
