National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the launch of the Zimbabwe Film Strategy 2025 – 2030 which took place in Harare on the 20th of November 2024. The document carries an informed analysis of the current state of our local Film Industry. Contributions from film practitioners nationwide showed that there is great potential to improve in various aspects that include quality of productions and the income earned by practitioners in the film value chain.
The guest of Honour, Acting Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe, who was represented by the Deputy Minister Honourable Emily Jesaya cemented that government in not going back on their commitment to transform the film industry. The national vision is working towards a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030 and film will not be left behind. The Zimbabwe Film Strategy is anchored on 9 pillars that inform the subsequent strategic priorities and Key Performance Indicators for the duration 2025 to 2030. These are:
- Governance and Regulation.
- Funding and Financing of the Industry
- Infrastructure and Facilities
- Copyright Protection
- Local, Regional and International Collaborations
- Markets and Distribution Channels
- Film Education and Training
- Inclusivity
- Research and Development
The successful implementation of the Film Strategy calls for a collective effort from various stakeholders. The Permanent Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana acknowledged the critical role his ministry plays in the distribution of films through Television & Broadcasting services. With the same support and commitment from all the stakeholders, success will be inevitable. On the closing remarks, celebrated film practitioner, Joe Njagu applauded the government for facilitating the production of this strategy, which is the first ever document of its kind to be produced in Zimbabwe
