After watching Lee Joon-ik’s “Book of Fish” along with only a couple of other moviegoers at Dongdaemun Megabox in Seoul on Tuesday, Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Hwang Hee promised to support the local film industry, which is suffering financially due to COVID-19.
Lithuania’s Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys has teamed up with his counterparts from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia to appeal to European Union’s commissioners over the financing of individual film festivals, which may be left without funding.

Despite the continued challenges and uncertainties brought about by COVID-19, the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) plans to go ahead with a hybrid edition of the 34th edition of TIFF, to be held from Oct 30 through Nov 8. The 33rd TIFF was also held both physically and online under the threat of the pandemic.
Uganda and South Africa shared experiences on strategies and measures for the development of the film sector, as part of a peer-to-peer exchange component of an EU/UNESCO-funded initiative. The online peer-to-peer exchange, which was held from 23 to 27 February 2021 for professionals and public officials in the film sector, aimed to facilitate a discussion where participants would gain first-hand knowledge and experience from peers on the development of regulatory frameworks for the culture and creative industries, with a focus on measures to support the film industry.
