Creative New Zealand is urging the inclusion of 'cultural well-being' as a concept within the nation's Local Government Act. In a submission to a recent Bill set to update the Act, Creative noted the central role that local government authorities play in the development of New Zealand's cultural life. '[Having cultural well-being included as a purpose for these organisations] would also reinforce the integral role that arts and culture play in the life of New Zealand communities,' commented Creative NZ CEO, Elizabeth Kerr. Creative's submission includes four case-studies illustrating the arts' integral work in communities, and the value of building partnerships across sectors within those communities.
