PRESIDENT AND CEO

The Omaha Symphony,
20 March 2002, USA

The Omaha Symphony welcomes nominations and applications for the position of President and CEO available in the Spring of 2002. The Orchestra The Omaha Symphony is a professional orchestra of 72 musicians, including a full-time core of 39, that offers 38 weeks of concerts and education programs to audiences in Omaha and, through regional tours, to audiences in communities in four neighboring states. The orchestra''s volunteer leadership structure includes a Board of Directors of 13 top corporate and community leaders and a Governing Members group of 32. There is an administrative staff of 23 full-time and 5 part-time, with a current operating budget of $5.3 million. Victor Yampolsky is Music Director of the Omaha Symphony. The Omaha Symphony''s mission is "to be the primary and essential orchestra resource regionally, providing an exhilarating musical experience for a diverse community of listeners-touching each one emotionally through the indescribable power of music." Shared values include the pursuit of artistic excellence and a deep commitment to education and community engagement. The orchestra has experienced significant and successful growth and program development in recent years. New education initiatives, including a Residency Partnership Program, a multi-cultural Neighborhood Series, additional free concerts throughout the community, and touring to 23 communities in 4 states have all been implemented while maintaining balanced operating budgets, increasing earned and contributed income, and building endowment. In January, 2001, the Omaha Symphony undertook a major strategic planning process to develop a ten-year vision for the orchestra, with a resulting plan encompassing program and resource development that will dramatically raise the tier and level of the Omaha Symphony by 2010. That vision reflects the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that comes with the building of a new concert hall, which, beginning in 2005, will be the orchestra''s permanent home. The plan also positions the orchestra as a leader within the city of Omaha''s own expanding vision for its cultural life and reputation. The orchestra''s ten-year goals include its positioning as a leading regional orchestra with increased artistic depth, broad educational and community programs, and national exposure through touring and recording. As the city of Omaha experiences expansion through new construction and downtown revitalization, the Omaha Symphony seeks to be an institution that contributes significantly to Omaha''s national reputation for culture and quality of life. The plan includes aggressive strategies for sustainable growth in income, audiences, and performance opportunities, completion of Phase I of the current endowment campaign to raise $12 million by 2005, planning and implementation of a second phase of the campaign and pursuit of artistic excellence in the new, state-of-the-art concert hall of the Omaha Performing Arts Center. A strong philanthropic spirit abounds in Omaha. The community ranks well above the national average in individual net worth, has a history of major community foundation activity, and is home to five Fortune 500 companies. The city of Omaha is well positioned to support the growth and development plans of the Omaha Symphony. The Position The President is the chief executive officer of the Omaha Symphony.
