The Turkish Ministry for Culture has recently launched a new e-commerce site for local art and craft products. An off-shoot of a government-owned chain of 13 stores, ‘Dosim Culture Products Shop’ online, brings together hundreds of items, grouped under banners such as glassware, stoneware, leatherware, CDs, textiles and jewellery. According to the website, Dosim fosters the production of high-quality handcrafts that reflect the character and identity of local communities nationwide: ‘Among those you may find… are the ceramic works of Çanakkale, antic tear bottles, silky scarves of Iznik design… and the necklaces, rings, earrings and other cultural attachments manufactured and tailored in the skillful hands of Bodrum's artists, in addition to… joyful embroideries designed in wizardry of colors… by craftsmen of Plateau Namrun.’ The organisation also undertakes research, development and other marketing activities to support Anatolian handcrafts. The site can be found online at: http://alisveris.ada.net.tr/dosim/default_eng.asp? (English and Turkish)
